"The Emperor's New Clothes" -- http://www.andersen.sdu.dk/vaerk/hersholt/TheEmperorsNewClothes_e.html -- I want to a little further here in the discussion of cultural literary experience, conflict, and mind.
Our political calculations -- political science -- have generally to do with social transactions -- deals, understandings, perceptions about power. However, motivations and dreams may reside elsewhere, and whether clinical in approach or romantic, that mind space, which I believe suspended in language invention and culture, may be less mindful of the social and political consequences of desires in thought.
I wouldn't view the story cited as an end-all and "Ah hah!" to this conflict but it's a thorny piece of adult work in its psychology and its portent is dark. Call it "mind widget" or hinge, it's about fear and greed, power, language, perception, and language and social behavior.
There's my launch this afternoon of a chat thread in a Facebook-hosted middle east peace discussion.
From Sydney to Dubai, I may be leading my fellow chatypers toward a few observations about language, comparative literature, content of mind, and social behavior.
