Crab soup served with sherry--now there's the start of a first course you don't see every day, but trust to the watery ways of Maryland, it's still waiting in Glen Burnie at The Sunset, one of the lovelier of "destination restaurants" in the state.
I have just spent a good part of the afternoon converting these old pictures, practically all of them shot on Ektachrome, from color slide scans to black and white print files. It's tedious work, no question, and I'm not sure how the printer will see them through page layout and press.
I can tell you I never again want a "problemmed publication" on my desk. Whatever you're producing in the way of art or media, get it on its feet and make it march. Do the whole plan, plan the logistics, and have at it. Time erodes projects: notes disappear; artwork may be misplaced (it was on this one, and adding to the injury was a fire February 3, 2006 that produced an emergency pack-out, undertaken by strangers and producing from my small apartment some 300 or more unmarked boxes); and the heart withers with the time put in on so discouraging a schedule and opportunities not realized, possibly, because of it.
All that said, I'm stuck with it this week. Only a couple more venues need the file transition; then there's the caption list to complete, and I am done. Even with a venue or two lost to time, there should be enough chapters to publish without further participation on my part.
May this week's effort make way for more interesting and remunerative missions--and ones that get done "on time and on budget".
