The picture was taken yesterday, a humid day that never quite developed its local thunderstorm but left a pale sun lowering through the afternoon.
Today's late afternoon: cool and rainy.
Indoors: vanilla fudge from the Amish market accompanied by a dessert coffee and cream.
We have and we know the meaning of "plenty".
I took time last week to "cover" a little bit of the war news--photographers imbedded with the U.S. or coalition forces or working the streets with their cameras and determined brave hearts; the disaster that has been Nahr al-Bared; the remarkable frontier country that is post-(recent)war Somalia.
Along with that Internet experience, we got to watch Munich, one of a string of conflict films we've enjoyed, starting with City of God and moving on through Salvador, Under Fire, Apocalypse Now Redux, Jarhead, Blood Diamond, Heaven's Gate (dreadful), The Sacrifice (Tarkovsky's proof that you can do something with a camera, a location, and a handful of actors), Das Boot, Schindler's List, Ghandi, Michael Collins (hard to follow, that one), and The Constant Gardener, a lovely film based on the book by John Le Carre.
In addition, following my interests, I've picked up on the documentaries War Photographer, about the career of James Nachtwey, and Diamonds of War: Africa's Blood Diamonds (problem cosmetically solved, so it would seem).
I could do with covering a story first hand, but when it comes to suffering war, God save us all from the all encompassing imposition of the real thing.
