The most telling thing about the latest in guerrilla tactics is how a very few fighters may run circles around an organized military force by simply choosing to not encounter it: assassination, roadside bombs, suicide bombs--that's combat without the combat.
I remind those that complain about how cowardly such deeds seem that modern militaries employ many "stand-off" tactics: raid, bomb, retreat will do it as will launching ordnance from well beyond the enemy's response range.
Whatever else we're witnessing, one may note that a small and ruthless force may overwhelm an otherwise overwhelming force as long as it keeps its operations hidden and its violence sudden.
