Nothing charms quite like a garden.
Perhaps, if I am very lucky--and only for photography and its pleasures--I will find the garden with just the bistro table for seating a young woman for a late afternoon meditation over coffee.
On this dead of winter morning, however, one has only to look forward to warmer days, to one's own next garden, and then so many gardens down the road.
Left: a cat from the private--and for sale--collection of statuary at Surreybrooke Gardens, Middletown, Maryland about 10 minutes south of Hagerstown on "National Road" Route 40.
The owners at Surreybrooke have taken the unique course of developing a competitively stocked, varied, and altogether spacious for-profit enterprise while providing quite a few walks, rooms, and rest stops well away from the nurseries and retail floor--no charge to the visiting public from March through December (check the web site for hours of operation, directions, and social calendar) for indulging in respite and delight in full measure.
